Chapter One

A Literary Philosophy

Five decades of writing return, again and again, to three quiet convictions.

My pen, my journey — to go past the words and find the person.
Literature is my life — in the author’s own words

Women’s Writing

A doctoral study of eighty-five years of Marathi women's autobiography (1910–1995), and the edited volumes that grew from it — a life spent listening for the voice that was always there and heard late.

Saint Literature

Two novels on the women of the saint tradition — Sant Bahenabai and the twelfth-century Akkamahadevi — carried thirteen state-level awards between them, and carried those lives to a new generation.

Teaching

Thirty years at A. R. Burla Mahila Mahavidyalaya, nine of them as Acting Principal. Speaking is an art, she writes; listening is a discipline.

Chapter Seven

In Appreciation

You are an exemplary teacher and a writer of rare sensibility. Holding the work of writing to be a sacred service to Saraswati, you have published forty-nine separate volumes. Your work and your person carry the holy fragrance of tulsi, kewda and sandalwood.
